S & G’s trip summary

We have always been interested in traveling to India and decided that 2009 would be the year for our Indian/Sri Lankan adventure. We figured we could combine a few of our favourite things…visiting new places, meeting interesting people, eating tasty curries, sampling local beers, practicing yoga, hiking and running (hopefully not away from danger!).

We started our research about 6 months ago and finally decided on an itinerary. India is diverse geographically, culturally and climatically so we wanted to try to incorporate as many regions as possible within 5 weeks. Since we are traveling to the southern tip of India we opted to include a week in Sri Lanka (we wanted to see if the rumor of the craziest drivers in the world is really true). The highlights of our trip include: The holy city of Varanasi (Ganges River), Taj Mahal, Tiger Safari in Ranthambore National Park, visiting the temples and palaces in the historic cities of Jaipur and Jodhpur, hitting the beaches in Goa, houseboating in southern Kerala (we’ll be thinking of you L & G), staying on a working tea estate in central Sri Lanka and finally hiking in the hill country of Sri Lanka. And of course we’ll need to find some cooking classes and regular yoga (we’re going to have to work off that curry!)

Grant is also looking forward to getting friendly with the local primates. Oh, how he loves monkeys! I’ll be camera ready for any imminent danger that he runs into. I’ve included the old ‘monkey on head’ photo from our Indonesia trip (mostly because it always makes me smile!). To be fair, it was called ‘Monkey Forest’…we were on their turf!

We’ll try to update the blog regularly. We’ll miss you all and will be thinking of you!

Love,
Sarah and Grant
